    • More Week 1 Prep

Must say I'm feeling a great deal of sorrow that FootballGuys had to close down their awesome repository of links for fantasy footballers, TodayinFantasy.com. When I think about the time and energy I put into this relatively minimalistic blog in my spare time and compare it to the monstrous task they took on with TIF, I have to say I'm not shocked that they're taking a break to get kinks worked out...it's a loss for the fantasy info lover but know that they'll be back better than ever next spring.

In the meantime I'm drowning my TIF sorrows with the reminder that the NFL season starts in less than 48 hours...and there's plenty of Week 1 material out there to link to tonight:
      • Week 1 rankings and projections:
      • Week 1 Start/Sit suggestions:
      • The Hazean has injury news for a whole slew of players up in Injury Prep for Week 1 - and he includes a friendly reminder to make sure your lineups are set for Thursday night's game. Can't say that enough!
      • Speaking of Thursday night's game, Rotoworld breaks it down with notes on players that you'll want to start, and those who can remain benched in Thursday Night Matchup: MIN @ NO.
      • Another treat from Rotoworld is Your 2010 Revis Cheat Sheet with a list of top WRs that you might want to sit when facing the Jets this season. The Revis impact is no joke - some incredible talent has been stymied by Revis so do keep the Revisness in mind this year as you set your lineups each week.
In the past I've spent some time each week tallying up the players with the most mentions in start and sit columns that I link to here, and have posted a consensus start/sit list (here's an example from last year). Is this a feature that you all found helpful? Please leave a comment or e-mail me so that I know whether or not this is something I should spend time on again this season - thanks!
    • Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games!

But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions.

      Now, onto Week 1!
      • First up, let's get to some of this weekend's big news:
        • Rotoworld's Say What? Housh is a Raven has tracked T.J. Houshmandzadeh's path from Seattle to Baltimore and what it means on the fantasy front.
        • MMQB today includes the details on the Revis deal, which I'd say worked out to his advantage.
      • With all of the big cuts I know many of you are wondering exactly who is left on each team. So take a look at FootballGuys.com's Depth charts, which are updated with great frequency. I'm not seeing Housh yet as a Raven but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before that's updated.
      • For those of you who still have some drafting to do, take a look at Junkyard Jake's deep positional rankings for the season - click here for the Top 100 WRs (you can link to the rest of the positions from there).
      • Week 1 games are just days away but if you're not thrilled with your squad or already have some injury/cuts issues to deal with, take a look at FantasyPros911.com's advice in Week One Waiver Wire Pickups.
      • How about some start/sit advice?
        • For Week 1 rankings take a look at these guys:
        • Finally, if you've ever wondered who the best fantasy football player in the world might be, well the Chicago Tribune has the answer for you in Chicago accountant is world's top-ranked fantasy football player, per the World Championship of Fantasy Sports.
        • Unexpected developments

Well I can officially report that Hurricane Earl hasn't quite panned out as expected here in Brooklyn. As in a total lack of rain (so far) and anything more than a casual breeze (so far). Along with most of the eastern seaboard, I was all set for a rather different day of weather. I'll call that a very good thing, just unexpected. Pretty sure Montario Hardesty, LenDale White, Byron Leftwich, and Kris Brown are all well aware of that I-was-expecting-something-else feeling...there's lots of news being churned out these days between injury reports and roster cuts. Stay on top of it all with sites like Rotoworld, my personal favorite for news.

As you all get ready for the long weekend, hopefully these links will help out with any last minute draft prep you might need to do. In just a few days we'll be looking at start/sit recommendations for Week 1 - wow, time is flying!
          • Rotoprofessor's final rankings are up - each of the rankings comes with some player observations/ranking notes as seen here with the top 60 WRs.
          • Or scope out Ultimate Fantasy Football Strategy's 2010 Player Rankings and Projections - both PPR and non-PPR rankings are available here.
          • Roto Arcade's ADP Progress Report reflects a lot of ADP changes that I've seen live and in person during recent drafts. I can see the rest of you are demonstrating your Gaffney love, too. Awesome.
          • Reasons to still keep Julian Edelman on your radar this season from USA Today's Fantasy Joe in The slot: Julian Edelman provides value even if Wes Welker stays healthy.
          • Or for other specific player insight, see CBSSports.com's Catch these two on the way up that focuses on Mike Sims-Walker and Michael Crabtree in particular.
          • There have been quite a few position battles playing out over training camp and the preseason games. Rotoworld's Adam Levitan takes a look at 25 big battles noting who the winner is and who you might want to focus on in drafts.
          • I'll be honest, I haven't really been concentrating on RB handcuffs during drafts this year. Perhaps that will be my demise. So be more prepared than I have been and read Football Jabber's Top Five Backup Running Backs to Draft.
If I can find time this weekend to get another post up, I will. Otherwise enjoy your Labor Day weekends and the start of college football...I for one can't wait to watch my Northwestern Wildcats beat up on Vandy tomorrow (Go Cats!).
        • Four more draft kit giveaways

Move fast and you can be one of four to get a FFXtreme draft kits for free. I gave out a few last week and am able to do so again (thanks FFX!), so send me an e-mail and the first 4 responders will get a draft kit (assuming you're not already an FFXtreme subscriber. I encourage you to move quickly and will post an update here on the blog as soon as I have given away all 4 draft kits. Update: Within 3-4 minutes, all 4 draft kits were taken. You guys are amazingly fast...

          Enjoy!
        • Fantasy football month is here!

Can we all get together and lobby to make September into Fantasy Football Awareness Month or what? Happy September and happy drafting - my week has been full of drafts already and the fun is really just beginning. I took MJD with the 3rd overall pick in a draft last night and am hoping that was the right move (Ray Rice was just sitting there, calling for me...). One of our links will address the MJD knee issue but I also have the results of the Buffalo Wild Wings League draft that I participated in on Monday night for you all. Adam Levitan of Rotoworld did a live chat during the draft, so check out his chat for the picks plus a bit of sage commentary. I feel only okay about my team; some picks felt money, others were a stretch or a panic pick when my guy went right before my turn. You all know how that feels I'm sure, what drafter doesn't?

So moving on to today's links:
          • Ultimate Fantasy Football Strategy takes a look at the 2010 Top 10 Overvalued Players - remember this isn't about players you should not take, just guys who you might only want to grab when offered at a good value point. That said, if you have a fantasy crush on Ryan Mathews, I certainly won't stop you.
          • On the flip side, FantasySharks.com has some undervalued players for you, and though this is article is specific to auction drafting, it's still relevant and interesting stuff for those in standard leagues, too.
          • We've got a spotlight on specific players in a bunch of today's links...
            • As mentioned above, Rotoworld's What to do about Jones-Drew talks to an orthopedic clinical specialist to help inform us a bit about MJD's knee issues.
            • CBSSports.com meanwhile addresses Ben Roethlisberger in Score big with Big Ben and when you could target him in drafts.
            • I'm on board with the Arian Foster lovefest in Roto Arcade's Now do you believe in Arian Foster's greatness? My Knoxville-based in-laws will be pleased to hear my excitement for this Tennessee alum. Lots of other player notes in there as always with Roto Arcade, so definitely a recommended read.
          • A little IDP love from ProFootballFocus.com's Six defensive sleepers worth picking. I'm only playing in one IDP league this year and am a little sad about that - be sure to stay on me if I'm not posting enough advice for IDP leagues!
          • The Sablich Brothers do a league wrap-up from the preseason games thus far to see what we can learn going into fantasy drafts in the Fifth Down's Fantasy Football: Preseason Analysis.
          • I've got two Razzball.com articles for you guys today - first up, a continuation of the draft strategy series they're doing with today's link looking at Drafting From Positions 9-12. The other article of interest is their PPR League Draft Strategy piece.
          • Sports Grumblings has given their Mighty Max supercomputer a chance to churn out names with a high probability of being a Bounce Back Candidate for the 2010 season, including a handful of IDPers.
          • FantasyPros.com turned to experts from Pro Football Weekly, Lester's Legends, and Razzball for thoughts on Preseason Studs: Which Hyped-up Guys are Worth the Premium? Which are Not? Some interesting consensus here on a few guys...
        • Updated Average Rankings Position Spreadsheet

Greetings, fantasy football friends. I've got the updated average rankings position spreadsheet for you this morning - and plan on being back tonight with some high quality links to help with your draft prep. For some background on the average rankings position spreadsheet, see this post from a few weeks ago. I've added in the Bruno Boys, so there's one more site averaged in here - and remember, this is based on top 100 overall rankings, but I've also divided it up to display within position rankings as well. If I can get my act together this week, I'll add a column to the spreadsheet that shows how much each player has moved since the last spreadsheet a few weeks ago, which is mostly just for my amusement really...

But in the meantime, here's the updated version on Google Docs or shoot me an e-mail if you'd like the excel version.
        • Lots of linkage

I've got lots of links for you today that I've been culling all weekend. I also want to make sure you all know that my updated average rankings position spreadsheet will be updated later today and I'll either have it up tonight or tomorrow. I wanted to wait until the all-important Week 3 games were finished and I hope that's not too late for most of you with your drafts.

Speaking of drafts, I have several this week (including the Buffalo Wild Wings League draft tonight!) and I know that many of you do, too. If you'd like an extra place to draft and try your hand at playing against me in a sense, head on over to RapidDraft.com where my rankings and draft strategies are used for one of their avatars. Plus if you are RapidDraft.com's big winner, there's a $100K grand prize and really, who couldn't use that?

          Let's get to today's links:
          • First up this morning is a look at drafting strategy from Razzball - Drafting From Positions 5-8. Having done some mock drafting this weekend, I can vouch for a lot of the advice that Razzball gives here since I feel like it matches up pretty well with some drafting moves I made.
          • Football Jabber has updated quarterback, running back, and wide receiver rankings just in time for upcoming weeknight drafts. Or try Fantasy Alarm's positional rankings here
          • And speaking of rankings, let's take a jaunt over to RapidDraft.com's Wide Receiver Projections (PPR) - Schauf notes some key player notes here as well.
          • On a sleeper note, FantasyOMatic.com has found some names you'll want on your sleeper radar - though note that Michael Bush's recent injury is worth keeping an eye on before you spring for him on draft day.
          • Or head on over to CBSSports.com's 2010 Draft Prep: Buy-low candidates. Am liking a fair number of these names, but as always happens at this time of year, I'm not so sure how many of these guys are really true sleepers anymore...but that's a whole different discussion I'm sure.
          • How about some bold predictions for 2010? FFXtreme has some thoughts on Ray Rice, Frank Gore, and LeSean McCoy among others in Top 10 Bold Predictions: Fantasy Football 2010. Keep your eyes open for another draft kit giveaway from FFXtreme early this week (I'll take this opportunity to plug my RSS feed, my e-mail sub option, and my twitter account as ways of getting my posts to your inbox/feed reader ASAP).
          • Matthew Berry's 10 Lists of 10: preseason edition is always a good read, though that might be in some part thanks to my propensity for lists and organization...by the way, am loving Jabar Gaffney right now so I'm wishing dudes like Berry would keep the lovefest minimal so that I can still grab him at a value.
          • I've had some of you ask about strategies and rankings for leagues with unique scoring and Razzball.com (yes, more love for Razzball) has a Two QB Fantasy Football League Strategy article - I also want to note how great these guys are about responding to questions/comments.
          • Another strategy piece, this time on the auction league front from Yahoo's Roto Arcade guys with Tip Drill: All About the Auction.
          • Football Outsiders always seem to come up with some helpful nugget of info that you wouldn't find elsewhere and might not even think to investigate. Today's nugget is a look at Which Teams Over- or Under-Report Injuries.
